The introduction of web-site questions has been a great success and to date we have received thousands of e-mails! It is impossible to answer every question and indeed to enter into correspondence with each person ... much as I would like to. Within some e-mails there have been up to a dozen questions so I'm sure we will have plenty of material to keep us going over the next few years. |

Your questions answered updated 16.09.02 The clip of "is your love strong enough" is beautiful. Was this videoclip made especially for the song or was the song made for a movie? From Carolien Kruijs in Schiedam, Netherlands. ANSWER: 'Legend' director Ridley Scott asked Bryan to record a song for the 'Legend' soundtrack and part of the deal was that there would be a video to go with the track. The demo for the song was call 'Circles' and dates from the 'Avalon' sessions. What is the oddest remix of a Roxy Music or Bryan Ferry track? From Alan Simon in Preston, England ANSWER: When we were putting together the 'More Than This' compilation in 1995 Nellee Hooper remixed 'These Foolish Things'.The mixes were called 'Moodier Darker Trpppier' and 'Slow Jam'. They are very different to what you might expect and perhaps one of them will turn up on the forthcoming boxed set. Has Bryan ever recorded the song 'The Way You Do' which was given to ABBA's Frida to sing on her solo album produced by Phil Collins? From Janeen K.Perutis ANSWER: This track originates from the 'Flesh and Blood' sessions and only a demo version of the song was recorded. It was never finished and only had a guide vocal so it was never in a version which could be released by either Bryan or Roxy Music. In 1984 Bryan gave a song to The Who's Roger Daltrey for his solo album 'Parting Should Be Painless'. The song 'Going Strong'came from 'The Bride Stripped Bare' sessions and there is a finished version of this song which might appear in the forthcoming boxed set. As a point of interest Chris Spedding and Alan Schwartzberg (a drummer on 'Flesh and Blood' ) also played on the Daltrey album. These are the only 2 occasions in which Bryan has given his songs to other artists. I am looking for facts on the two solo concerts Bryan gave in the Royal Albert Hall in December 1974. I have always read mainly in articles and books on Bryan about these two concerts, but I would like to find more complete information on those solo shows? From Pablo Menacho in Spain Answer: As this question came in I had just come across a live recording of the Albert Hall show which was recorded by a live mobile and given an initial studio mix from Chris Thomas. Indeed it is one of the first times that Rhett Davies worked with Bryan. As part of the answer we have set out some information regarding the set list, musicians etc. as well as some rare photographs from the concert itself. See the programme, rare photos and set list here. I was wondering if the girl in the Avalon Video was Sophie Ward...also where was that video shot? from Emily Lawson, UK. Answer: The girl in the video was indeed Sophie Ward and it was filmed at Mintmore House which was being used as a centre for Transcendental Meditation. The director was Howard Guard who made his name in television commercials. Sophie's dress was made by Antony Price and after the shoot the drawing /design of the dress was autographed by Antony and displayed by Mintmore House as a memento of the event. In 'The Bryan Ferry Story' by Rex Balfour it said that the ' Siren' shows at Wembley were filmed for posterity- is there any chance a video / dvd being released ? From Kevin Butler Hertfordshire Answer: We are in the process of tracking down old film/video for future release but from memory we are sure that the footage wasn't edited and therefore would need a lot of work carried out on it before consideration is given to release. There are live audio recordings from that period which will also be worthy of future investigation / release. I know you are a big fan of the Shirelles, but are you a lover of the entire 60's girl group sound? In particular the Shangri La's and is there any chance in the future of you covering songs from this genre? from Steve Swift in Leicester Answer: Bryan is a big fan of groups like the Supremes, the Shirelles and of course the Ronettes. There are lots of songs from this period he loves and we are sure in the future he will cover something from that period. Any suggestions? WHAT WAS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF 'CPL 593 H' IN THE SONG 'REMAKE/REMODEL? From Alan Scott in Melbourne, Australia Answer: Obviously this is a British car registration number. As to the owner we will leave you to guess... Q:WAS THE SONG SAN SIMEON WRITTEN ABOUT THE HEARST CASTLE IN CALIFORNIA? From Jamie in L.A. BRYAN: 'San Simeon' is another of the songs I wrote with Dave Stewart and I found this set of lyrics that Id had from years ago when writing 'In Every Dream Home A Heartache' in 1973. And some of these lyrics I hadnt used were perfect for the song. In a way its kind of a return to '... Dream Home' or an extension of it. This place, San Simeon, which was built by the American newspaper tycoon Hearst, was a fairytale castle built in California. Orson Wells made one of the great movies, 'Citizen Kane', which is about this great house he called Xanadu which is in the film. Its a good idea for a song when you wander into this ghostly castle which has all the memories of a glamorous past. Q:DOES BRYAN EVER REGRET NOT RELEASING TRACKS FROM THE FIRST AND SECOND ROXY MUSIC ALBUMS AS SINGLES? From Colin Smith in Scotland. A: Bryan doesn't regret it but perhaps is curious about how both 'Do The Strand' and 'Editions Of You' might have performed had they been released. 'Do The Strand' made an appearance in several European countries and in America but promotional opportunities were limited and the single didn't chart. Q:WHAT COMES FIRST WHEN COMPOSING A SONG, MUSIC OR LYRICS? from Takakazu Higuchi, Japan. A:Almost always the music comes first with lyrics being the hardest to complete. This has really been the case from the 'Stranded' album onwards. Q:WHEN CAN WE EXPECT A BBC SESSIONS RELEASE FOR ROXY MUSIC? from Robert Conroy, New York City. A:This project will happen at some point and is part of several catalogue suggestions betwen ourselves and Virgin Records. There have been problems in the past in locating the original BBC masters but these appear now to be resolving themselves. What is clear is that it won't be released this year! Q:WHEN WILL THERE BE A BRYAN FERRY BOXED SET? from Renate Schroeder, Germany. A:We have talked about this project since 1996 and indeed various drafts of the track listing have been put together over the years. As it stands just now we are aiming for Christmas 2003 and it is likely that it will follow the format of the Roxy Music boxed set.The only difference I can see is that Bryan's collection will contain some unreleased material. Q:WHEN CAN WE EXPECT TO SEE A BRYAN FERRY BIOGRAPHY? From Pascale Boyle, UK. A:Plans are underway to have a book on the shelves which will have an input from Bryan . Unfortunately I can't give dates as the project is at the very early stages. Q:WHEN IS BRYAN COMING TO NORTH AMERICA AND AUSTRALIA? A:We've had hundreds of enquiries from America and Australia about when Bryan will be touring in support of the "Frantic" album. Too many people to mention but here are the first 8 people to send a question re. tour dates. From the U.S. step forward Joe P, David Firmin, John Debaun, John Clark, Rob Hassen, Susan Ward and from Down Under, Adrian from Sydney and Graham V. Smith from Prahran. Essentially we don't have any other news on further tour dates but we will keep everyone informed via the web-site. Realistically any dates will be much later in the year. As soon as we have the news we will post accordingly. Q:WILL 'FRANTIC' WILL BE RELEASED AS A VIDEO COLLECTION? From JANICE C. SPELLMAN, MASSACHUSETTS, U.S.A A:At this moment in time there is no plan to film any videos from 'Frantic' and the main thrust of promotion will be through press, radio and television which has a greater guarantee of success. For all record companies budgets are tight and we are more confident of following this promotional route than relying on a video which may not be played. Indeed in Europe just now we have 4 tracks from 'Frantic' being serviced to radio. They are as follows, 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue', 'Goddess 0f Love', 'A Fool For Love' and 'One Way Love'. Given the difficulties in the past in getting songs on the radio this is a welcome development. Due to the overwhelming response to this section we are not taking any more questions. We may invite some more later in the year. |
